Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Unlike simple snoring, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a potentially life-threatening condition that requires medical attention. The risks of undiagnosed OSA include:

heart attack
stroke
irregular heart beat
high blood pressure
heart disease
decreased libido
daytime drowsiness

In addition, the daytime drowsiness that can be caused by OSA can result in accidents, lost productivity and interpersonal relationship problems. Symptoms can be mild, moderate, or even severe.

The diagnosis of OSA typically comes from a medical doctor (MD), often a physician who specializes in Sleep Medicine. If you have severe OSA, it is likely that your sleep physician will recommend a CPAP machine to be worn while you sleep; however, if you have mild to moderate OSA the dentists at Persona Dental can custom make an oral appliance to effectively treat your sleep apnea.
